Kia Ora, I’m Thaeya, and I’m very excited to be a part of this amazing programme.
I am a rower and currently in my fourth season of competing. Rowing has provided me with the skills of being able to work as one cog within a team to achieve a common goal. I have learned discipline, dedication, focus and perseverance from the long hours spent honing my skills in order to be the best possible version of myself. I really enjoy the technical aspect of being in the boat and how the body, boat and oar work together to create the most effective movement possible. In the future I hope to take rowing to a high performance level to see just how far I can go.
Growing up with family involved in the fire service and the satisfaction and passion in those people sparked an interest in myself. The intense teamwork, challenge and the high pressure environment that comes with working in those extreme situations is something I enjoy and find very rewarding.
In the future I hope to pursue tertiary education to study mechanical engineering. I thrive on innovation and problem-solving which is what makes engineering really appeal to me. I enjoy finding new, innovative ways to solve problems and have an obsessive curiosity around how things work. I am very interested in motorsport and find the engineering side of this fascinating. The concept of discovering methods to maintain and improve the intricate operations of machinery, engines, and similar systems sounds like a very exciting and appealing challenge.
Overall I’m over the moon to have been successful in being chosen to be part of Stage One and can’t wait to see where this takes me!
