Hi, my name is Sophie Tee
I was born in 2007 in Nelson. I started dancing at the age of four and have been passionate about classical ballet since. Ballet has always been a huge part of my life and it has always been my goal to become a professional dancer.
Until the age of 14, I trained in Nelson, before making the decision to commute weekly between my academic school in Nelson, and my dance school, Anneliese Gilberd Academy, in Christchurch. This allowed me to increase my training hours while still maintaining my academic studies and living with my family in Nelson. The following year, I moved away from my family to live in Christchurch where I continued training at Anneliese Gilberd Academy six days per week after school. During this year I competed in the South Island Ballet Awards where I was fortunate enough to progress to the finals and be awarded a short-term scholarship to the Annette Roselli Dance Academy in Brisbane, Australia. After attending this scholarship I was offered a place in their 2024 Full-Time Elite Training Program which I accepted, and moved to Australia on my own at the beginning of 2024.
As well as ballet, I am also interested in music, sports nutrition and photography. I learnt the cello for five years and like both playing and composing music. In my spare time I enjoy creating images of dancers through photography. I also enjoy getting outdoors and photographing landscapes and wildlife.
