Kia Ora! My name is Sophia Brock and I currently attend Mount Maunganui College, where I am privileged to be the Head Girl for 2024. I am so grateful to be a part of the Hyundai NZ Pinnacle Programme and I am thankful for everything it has offered me thus far.
I am passionate about surfing, both competitively and for fun. When I'm not in the classroom, there is a good chance you will find me out in the ocean or at the gym training! Surfing has given me the incredible opportunity to travel the world, meet diverse people, and experience various cultures.
This year, I was selected to represent New Zealand in the NZ Surfing Team at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships. In late April I travelled over to El Salvador, where I placed 37th in the world in the U18 girls division. Representing New Zealand and wearing the Silver Fern has always been my dream. After being the non - travelling reserve for the team in both 2022 and 2023, I was over the moon to have finally achieved this goal.
I play a variety of other sports to a high level and also work hard at school. My key academic achievements include being; runner-up dux in 2020, achieving NCEA Level 1 and 2 Excellence Endorsements, and winning several school academic awards.
When I graduate High School at the end of 2024, I plan to study Law and Commerce at the University of Otago. My dream is to travel and make a positive impact helping young people in the less developed world to achieve their dreams.
