Kia Ora, my name is Sally Roff and I’m from Nelson.
I’m passionate about heaps of things, but to sum it up my interests mostly lie within the outdoors, leadership and sports. I love putting myself out there and ensuring that I don’t let any time or opportunity go to waste, so I’m super stoked to see where this program can take me and make the absolute most of it.
I am always up for an adventure or challenge so am often busy doing things that push me mentally, physically or both. This includes tramping, running, mountain biking, kayaking, diving, volunteering, academics, travel, but most of all, sailing.
I love all aspects of sailing, from the pure enjoyment of being out on the water to the adrenaline rush of competitive racing. Through sailing, I’ve been privileged enough to compete all over NZ and even in Australia. A highlight was winning the female title at both the NZ Team Sailing Nationals and the NZ v Aus Interdominion Team Sailing champs in 2022. As well as team sailing, I’ve competed in multiple other boats and crewed on offshore passages. I currently sail a foiling boat called the Waszp as well as skippering a crew of 5 in a keelboat racing series. Through this, I’ve not only gained skills and experience, but commitment, dedication, and the chance to connect with some truly awesome people.
Coaching at my local yacht club is another passion of mine. Being able to encourage and upskill younger sailors is such a rewarding experience for me as I can give back to my local community and pass on knowledge to them. As well as this, it gives me the opportunity to improve my personal attributes such as leadership and communication.
I am incredibly grateful to be on this program. I can’t wait to embark on new experiences, challenges and connect with some extraordinary people, while heading towards my goals and growing as a person along the way.
