Hi, my name is Libby Jackson, and I am currently in Year 12 at Woodford House. It is such a privilege to be selected for the Pinnacle Programme, and I am so excited to embark on my journey.
I am deeply passionate about achieving academic excellence, with a strong focus on Sciences, Maths, and Physical Education. Having achieved NCEA Level 1 with an Excellence endorsement and all 6 of my subjects with Excellence endorsed in 2023, I aspire to continue this into 2024 at NCEA Level 2. I am also very involved with the Academic Committee at school where I help in the organisation of academic events.
Arts is another aspect I am very involved in. I am a member of both choirs at school, play the guitar, and enthusiastically participate in school productions. I have been very involved in House Drama performances, being awarded best Junior Actress. I also participate in Public Speaking lessons, am an active member of the school Visual Performing Arts Committee, and I am the Head of Technical Theatre at school.
Beyond academics and arts, I thrive on challenges and am determined to overcome any obstacles in my path to success.
Adventure and the great outdoors fuel my spirit. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoying activities such as Great Walks, skiing, mountain biking, and serving as a Surf Lifeguard at my local beach. In March 2023, I achieved my Duke of Edinburgh Gold award. This was a milestone after 2 years of hard work to also gain my Bronze and Silver levels. As well as providing amazing experiences, Duke of Ed has taught me the value of resilience and perseverance and given me the confidence to get out of my comfort zone. These are qualities I am proud to embody today.
At the beginning of 2024, I achieved Student Volunteer Army Gold, which is 500 hours of community service. I was awarded Top Volunteer for my school in 2023 and I am now a SVA Youth Ambassador. I really enjoy helping others and it is a privilege to be able to give back to school and my community.
Looking ahead, I aspire to pursue University studies in Medicine. Everything medical fascinates me: science and the human body, research, innovation, helping others, and the challenge of achieving highly. I strive to be an inspirational role model and make a meaningful and significant impact in my community and beyond.
The quote by Aristotle “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit” reflects my commitment to continual growth and excellence in all endeavours.
