Kia Ora! My name is Kate McIntosh, and I am the Head Girl of Long Bay College.

Five years ago, I invented a device called the eWhistle and ever since then I have been Hearing New Zealand’s youth ambassador, advocating for youth to protect their hearing.

My dream is to someday have this device available to everyone who needs it.

I love playing sport and am a part of our school's water polo, curling, and football team. Performing arts is also a passion of mine, as I have directed and performed in numerous Sheilah Winn Shakespeare performances and am looking to head down to nationals later this year. Next year I'm looking at studying Communications AUT which I'm really excited about.

Hard work and risk taking inspires me. One of my favourite quotes that I live by is “Sometimes all you need is just 20 seconds of insane courage, and I promise you something great will come of it.” This is because by taking risks and achieving goals that scare me, I always end up with the same result: a new adventure, friends to accompany me, along with a self-fulfilling confidence that I never had before. Taking that first step is the hard part, but the rest is filled with enjoyment and a ton of crazy memories that will last a lifetime.

I’m really looking forward to being a part of Pinnacle and all the exciting opportunities that will come with it.
