I am Josiah Murphy a 20-year-old from Te Anau, Fiordland, and I am inspired by people pushing the limits and redefining the boundaries of human capability.
My passions are adventure racing and all the disciplines that this encompasses; running, climbing, pack rafting, and mountain biking in some of the world’s harshest and most remote terrain. Recently I competed with my team, FEAR Youth in Godzone chapter 11 the expedition racing world championships coming in 7th due to an injury in the final few days but it was pretty exciting to be up in the mix with the world’s best endurance athletes as the youngest team in history, especially after finishing unranked in last year’s Godzone chapter 10 after an injury caused a team mate to evacuated. Racing with FEAR youth I have won the Wilderness Traverse Fiordland as well as placing 4th in A1 world championship and 2nd at the Takitimu traverse and Big Holyday, and am excited for the coming race season.
I am currently in my third year of Medicine at Otago University, and I am absolutely loving it. If anyone has any questions about Pinnacle, Adventure Racing, or Med, don't hesitate to get in touch. Spirit of Adventure and Outward Bound were absolutely amazing and pivotal experiences in my life and I am excited to continue my journey with pinnacle.
In the meantime, I'll leave you with a few choice words of wisdom dreamed up by some cold, hungry and sleep-deprived boys deep in the bush.
- "Hungry for the hill"
- "Be bold, start cold"
- "Straight lines and good times"
- "Fast and loose"
