Kia Ora, my name is Emelia, I’m eighteen years old and my passion is the ocean and everything living in it!
I am currently studying a maritime crewing course in sunny Nelson, and I will be moving down to work in the Milford Sound in May.
I have been drawn to the ocean all of my life, and the fascinating creatures are truly alluring to me. Whilst in Nelson, I have been lucky enough to volunteer with Experiencing Marine Reserves and Tasman Bay Guardians, guiding snorkeling groups around Rotokura / Cable Bay. This really fueled my fascination around marine life. My aspiration to study Marine Biology is still a very significant goal of mine.
I believe having a gap year is a great way to learn more about yourself, so this year I’m taking up as many opportunities as I can, to better myself, and to grow my wealth of knowledge and connections.
I am truly excited to see what this year brings! I know that everything happens for a reason, and that success is not a destination, but a journey.

If you woke up tomorrow and had instantly achieved all of your major life goals you wouldn’t know how to handle any of it. It would be completely overwhelming because you hadn’t grown and transformed through the process of creating it all. The process is magic. It’s the becoming of you.
