Hey, I’m Dean Stewart and I’m a Shepherd and Endurance Athlete from Eastern Southland.
I’m currently 19 years old and in Stage 1 of the Pinnacle Programme. Most of my spare time goes into training for Adventure Racing and Ultra Running, although when I’m not training I’m most likely to be found in the backcountry hunting or tramping (which also happens to be awesome training).
I’ve just completed a very exciting summer of events taking out 3rd at NZ Rogaine champs, last man standing at The Revenant ultra run and coming in a respective 7th in Godzone Expedition racing World Champs as Fear Youth alongside other pinnacle students Josiah and Fynn.
Currently, I’m spending a month in Japan as an invited athlete to run a 100-mile ultramarathon. It has been an amazing opportunity to experience the culture and race against Japan’s
best. But also have time to take a step out of everyday life and gain new perspectives.
The next event on the calendar is to head to the Adventure Racing World champs in South Africa with the Fear Youth squad. Where we will be looking to have a strong performance on the world stage representing the next generation of Kiwi athletes.
I am really happy to be trying my hand at many different skills and taking up as many opportunities as I can while I determine the sort of life I want to lead. I am very grateful for the support and opportunities the Pinnacle Program has provided me.
