Kia ora, my name is Daisy and I am a Year 13 student at Hillcrest High School in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton. I am a driven and curious learner with a strong academic record, and I enjoy pushing beyond what is expected, particularly in science. I have also pursued learning beyond the classroom, including completing university-level study in a new area while still at school.
I have a strong interest in the brain and how it shapes behaviour, thinking, and human experience. Through neurodiversity within my family, I have become increasingly aware of the wide range of ways people experience the world, and the gap in understanding that still exists within the health system. Seeing both effective and ineffective communication from medical professionals has shaped my interest in improving not only how clinicians communicate, but also how the system itself is designed to better support neurodiverse individuals.
I am motivated by the opportunity to push my own limits and better understand what I am capable of. I value being surrounded by focused, positive people and learning from their perspectives, goal setting, and approach to challenges.
More than anything, I want to contribute in a way that makes a real difference. I am less interested in recognition, and more motivated by the opportunity to give back, support others, and be part of meaningful change.
The Pinnacle Programme is an opportunity for me to challenge myself, refine my direction, and continue developing both academically and personally, while exploring how my interest in neuroscience can translate into real-world impact.
