Bree McCowatt

Stage 1

Sport

Kia Ora everyone, my name is Bree McCowatt, I am eighteen years old and am in my first of university attending Bond University located in Gold Coast, Australia.

I am currently a Stage one student in the Pinnacle Programme hoping to use it to my fullest potential. I care for the environment, the ocean and the creatures it holds and I enjoy exploring the outdoors by swimming, surfing etc. I enjoy travelling overseas and seeing different perspectives and ways of life in different countries. I am extremely passionate about sports and being competitive, especially in surf lifesaving, swimming and netball.

So far university has been a different experience. I am studying Sports and Exercise Science, it is very hands on and relevant to the real world hoping to lead me to a job that I am passionate about in the future.

Over the past few years, I had the opportunity to represent New Zealand in swimming at the Worlds, represent my region in netball and my club in surf lifesaving. I am continuing to train and hope to one day represent New Zealand again but in surf lifesaving.

I am extremely grateful to also be named as a recipient of the Tania Dalton Foundation Scholarship, a three-year scholarship in which 12 female athletes are chosen a year. It is a privilege to be named in this scholarship to learn more about Tania's legacy and connect with more people like myself. I plan to continue paying it forward wherever I can just like Tania used to. I am now in the second year of the scholarship and although I have moved overseas I am still trying to be as involved as I can.

Thanks again to the Pinnacle Programme for providing me with this scholarship to be able to complete stage one, I had the time of my life on Spirit of Adventure, and hopefully, continue onto the next stages when I return home to grow as a person.
