My name is Aaron Hewson. I graduated from the University of Otago in 2024, studying a BSc double majoring in Agricultural Innovation & Plant Biotechnology, and a BA majoring in Religious Studies with a minor in Asian Studies. In 2025 I am starting a Masters of Science in Plant Biotechnology, researching a conservation collection of heritage apples!
Born and bred in Dunedin, I have grown up with a love for both humans and the world we live in. I am passionate about conservation and agriculture, particularly how we can combine them to solve problems our ecosystems are facing. This means using future-focused approaches like genetic technologies as well as traditional sustainable practices to design solutions for harmonious co-existence of humans and nature. However, we also have to remember our connections as humans to each other and the planet as an integral part when shaping the future, which is where my passion for the humanities ties in.
Pinnacle has been amazing in giving me the skills and experience to push myself, to be both a better scientist and a better leader. The personal development throughout Pinnacle has pushed me to refine my passions and pursue my dreams. I am very grateful for all that I have gained through the Pinnacle Programme and look forward to more ahead.
