Sam Boyle

Hi, I’m Sam and I’m a 17-year-old Rosmini College student from the North Shore of Auckland. I’ve always loved taking things apart to see how they work, and designing and building new things. Up until earlier this year I was a senior classical associate at the New Zealand School of Dance before I decided to move away from ballet and focus more on a future in engineering. 

Recently I had the privilege of attending Grapple 2022, which is a national engineering competition based in Christchurch. After an amazing week working in a team of 5 from around the country, we ended up winning the competition which was really cool. I have a particular interest in building anything that flies, and am currently part of a small group building a Savannah ICP, a 2-seater microlight. I’m also involved in building a human-powered plane and a few other aerospace related projects. 

In the future I’d love to study either mechanical, mechatronics or aerospace engineering and then go on to become an engineer developing new vehicles in the aerospace industry.  

I feel so lucky to be part of the Pinnacle Programme and can’t wait to go on the Spirit of Adventure in January 2023.
